Spencer and Amizetta Clark came to St. Helena from Texas in the late 1970s, and in 1979 they found a steep, rocky, south-facing 40-acre parcel at the base of Howell Mountain in Conn Valley. They planted terraced hillside vineyards and named the property after Amizetta, a name passed down through five generations of her family. The Clark family still owns it; son Perry is president and son Edward has been winemaker since 2011.
The winery was built in 1984 with help from Justin Meyer, founder of Silver Oak Cellars, and they called it "a winemaker's winery." The vineyard climbs to about 1,000 feet, with views of Lake Hennessey, Pritchard Hill and San Pablo Bay, on red and grey sobrante loam. The Clarks chose the site for Cabernet Sauvignon and other Bordeaux varieties. Solar panels on the winery roof have powered the estate since 2005.
Visits are by advance reservation only, seven days a week. Guests sit down for a flight of current releases, hosted privately by a member of the winery team. Plan on about 75 minutes. Since 2021 the family has rebuilt the winery (in use since the 2025 harvest), expanded the cave from 800 to about 8,000 square feet, and started work on a new hospitality building.
The winery asks for either a $100 per person tasting fee or a purchase of three bottles per person, for a seated, privately hosted tasting of current releases lasting about 75 minutes (groups under 12).
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
