Napa · Napa Valley
A small-lot Napa and Sonoma label from GuildSomm chairman Gray Randolph, a certified sommelier and onetime touring rock drummer. Gray Randolph does not receive visitors; here is what to know, and a day at sought-after estates nearby that do host.
Book a Six-Hour Wine Tour
Gray Randolph played drums in the 1980s rock band Locals Only, which toured with the Ramones, then spent 30 years in commercial real estate. A longtime collector, he became a Certified Sommelier through the Court of Master Sommeliers in 2009 and a French Wine Scholar in 2015, and he is now Chairman of GuildSomm, the Guild of Sommeliers.
The label was founded in 2014; its first commercial release was a single Cabernet Franc. Today it makes a Cabernet Sauvignon Valley Fruit Project and a Mountain Fruit Project, a Petaluma Gap Chardonnay and the V3 Italian Chardonnay, from growers in Napa and Sonoma. The aim is balance and intensity at prices meant for regular drinking, not the $350 to $500 bottles around it.
The wines are allocated to the mailing list, sold online and distributed in a handful of states. There is no tasting room, so Gray Randolph does not receive visitors; Gray hosts in-person tastings only as events for groups of 30 or more, by request. The day below takes you to three sought-after estates that do host.
Gray Randolph Wines does not offer tastings.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Pickup at 10:00 a.m. from a nearby hotel such as Carneros Resort and Spa or Stanly Ranch.
Since Gray Randolph does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do. Carneros Resort and Spa and Stanly Ranch, an Auberge resort among the Carneros vines, are each about 8 to 10 minutes from the first stop in the Carneros hills. The day fits about six hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.
About 10 minutes away. A family winery in the Carneros hills, started by a longtime Napa winemaker, with relaxed tastings modeled on small French family estates. Fees to be verified upon reservation; by appointment Monday to Saturday for groups of 10 or fewer, and we allow about an hour.
About 12 minutes away. Aaron Pott's small Cabernet vineyard near the Knights Valley line, with whites aged in Tuscan amphorae, poured at Blackbird's tasting room in south Napa. The Perliss Estate Tasting is $80 to $110; we allow about an hour. By reservation for parties of 1 to 8.
About 10 minutes away. Lunch at Angèle, a French brasserie on the Napa River in downtown Napa, serving lunch daily from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 15 minutes away. A small family winery at the base of Mt. George, built by hand by its owners, who host every visit themselves on the terrace, in the winery and in the caves. The hosted experience is $80; we allow about 90 minutes of its up-to-two-hour length. By appointment.
Back by about 4:10 p.m., a little over six hours after pickup.
About $160 to $190 per person in published tasting fees for Perliss and Mount George, plus McKenzie-Mueller's fee, which is confirmed upon reservation. Fees are paid directly to each winery.
McKenzie-Mueller hosts Monday to Saturday (Sunday varies), and Perliss sets its days on Tock, so we confirm both before the day. Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting.
