Gratitude Wines is the label of brothers Juan C. Alfaro and Gerardo Alfaro, who describe it as the expression of their journey from the vineyards of Mexico to the hills of Napa Valley. Juan, the winemaker, moved from the vineyards into the winery cellar and learned from mentors there. Gerardo rose to vineyard manager and now runs his own vineyard management company with his brother.
The label began in a barn owned by Jack and Marcey Smith, where the brothers made homemade wine for family and friends. The grapes come from vineyards they farm, including Marcey's Vineyard in Calistoga and the Ryge Vineyard in the Diamond Mountain District, and the cellar work is small and honest: native fermentations and minimal intervention. They also make a Tuscan-blend olive oil from olives grown in Calistoga.
Current releases include a 2023 Diamond Mountain District Cabernet, a 2022 Marcey's Vineyard Cabernet, a 2021 Cabernet and a 2023 Calistoga Sauvignon Blanc Reserve, from $35 to $88, sold directly online or by phone. Gratitude lists a post office box in Calistoga and no tasting room, so it does not receive visitors. The day below visits Calistoga wineries that do host.
Gratitude does not offer tastings.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Since Gratitude does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do. Indian Springs, the hot springs resort in downtown Calistoga, and Four Seasons Napa Valley, on the Silverado Trail, are each about 8 minutes from the first stop. The day runs under six hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.
About 8 minutes away. A Napa name from 1975, back in the valley at a solar-powered Calistoga estate on Dunaweal Lane, with seated tastings and a caviar pairing. The seated Heritage Tasting of four wines is $50, about 90 minutes. Open daily 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; reservations recommended.
About 10 minutes away. Estate Rutherford Cabernet from the McGah family, long known as co-owners of the Oakland Raiders, poured in privately hosted tastings at the family's Calistoga winery on Tubbs Lane. A Classic Scarlett Tasting is $50; we allow about an hour. By reservation, for up to six guests.
About 8 minutes away. Lunch at Sam's Social Club at Indian Springs in Calistoga, a sit-down restaurant named for town founder Samuel Brannan, serving lunch Monday through Friday and brunch on weekends. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 5 minutes away. A family winery in a former Calistoga water plant, with wines named for the Greek Muses and a custom crush cellar for small producers. The Amuse Me tasting is $65; we allow about an hour. By prepaid reservation, for parties of 1 to 6.
Back by about 3:45 p.m., under six hours after pickup.
About $165 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.
Scarlett and Museion confirm their days and times when we book. Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting.
