Calistoga · Napa Valley
A Napa name from 1975, back in the valley at a solar-powered Calistoga estate with seated tastings and a caviar pairing, and a suggested six-hour day of tasting around it.

Steve and Carol Girard founded Girard Winery in 1975 on land near the Silverado Trail and in 1980 built their winery on Oakville Cross Road, the building that is now Rudd. Pat Roney bought the Girard name in 2000, and after years in leased space Girard came home to Napa Valley with its own Calistoga estate. Today it belongs to Adair Family Wines, alongside Clos Pegase on the same lane.
The estate on Dunaweal Lane is a working production winery with on-site vineyards and a 14,000-square-foot barrel room, and solar panels supply nearly all of its power, according to the Napa Valley Register. Girard is best known for Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, and the winemaker's passion for Rhône varieties shows in a mixed white, Grenache, a GSM blend and Petite Sirah.
Tastings are seated, with views across the north end of the valley between the Vaca and Mayacamas ranges. The Heritage Tasting pours four signature wines; the Mountain Series and Taste of Rhône add cheese and charcuterie; and the Caviar Pairing matches osetra caviar with the wines. Guests like that it is relaxed and close to town, and locals get a weekday discount.
$50 for the Heritage Tasting of four signature wines, seated, about 90 minutes. $75 for Taste of Rhône and $85 for the Mountain Series, each with cheese and charcuterie, 90 minutes. $90 for the Caviar Pairing, 90 minutes.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
