About the Winery

Ignacio Gallegos Sr. settled in the heart of Napa Valley in the 1950s and began a family legacy of farming some of wine country's most prestigious vineyard sites. Today his son Ignacio II and grandsons Ignacio III and Eric carry it on through Gallegos Vineyard Management, the company they started in 2008.

Each harvest the family hand-selects grapes from vineyards they manage, and from their own estate vineyard in Rutherford, for the limited-production Gallegos wines. The list includes Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah and the Rancho de Gallegos Estate Merlot. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate gave the 2012 Dos Hermanos red blend 92 points and called it "an intriguing and impressive wine."

The family's motto is that great wines begin in the vineyard, and the wines are sold on the website and through a wine club with no membership fee. Gallegos lists only a post office box in Rutherford and publishes no tasting program, so it does not host public visits. The day below takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do.
