Jim Frisinger earned a master's degree in viticulture and enology at UC Davis, and in 1981 he and his wife, Karen, bought a vacant 20-acre parcel in Napa Valley's Oak Knoll District. They harvested their first vintage in 1985 and made several vintages of Frisinger Chardonnay in the 1980s, before Jim turned to his career as a viticulturist at Beringer and the family winery was put on hold.
For years the estate's grapes went to other wineries, including Chateau Montelena, Duckhorn and Beringer. Today Jim and Karen's son, Karl, and his wife, Rachel, have revived the family winery, making estate-grown Reserve Chardonnay, Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon. The old wine press on the label was standing on the land when the family bought it in 1981.
Visits are by appointment only, at the family vineyard on Dry Creek Road. Because production is modest and the setting intimate, the family asks guests to call or email to schedule, and we do that for you. Expect a personal visit with the people who grow and make the wine, and the chance to reserve a club allocation while you are there.
Tasting fees to be verified upon reservation.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
