Erikson & Caradin released its first wine with the 2013 vintage and sold every case to friends and select restaurants around the country. In 2016 it gained access to more fruit and grew from 85 cases to 264, ten barrels from two sites. Today it makes eight designations but caps production at 50 barrels, and it describes its owners as wine lovers and collectors who set out to find the best parcels of Cabernet in Napa Valley.
The winemaker is Robert Smith. The Reserve Cabernet blends Atlas Peak and St. Helena fruit, and an Innovative Series compares two vine-training methods from two Napa sub-appellations, in bottlings called Bilateral and Quadrilateral, the latter from Mount Veeder. Ivy & Thistle is Napa Valley Cabernet fermented in concrete, Raptor & Crimson a non-vintage Cabernet, and Bloom & Bramble a Chardonnay.
The wines are sold online through the shop Erikson & Caradin shares with Edict and at select restaurants, and a new line, Hazel & Axe, honors a family matriarch who liked to say 'wield the axe.' The label publishes no tasting room or visiting program, so it does not receive visitors. The day below pairs a private tasting downtown with a cave tour in the hills east of Napa.
Erikson & Caradin does not offer tastings.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Since Erikson & Caradin does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do. Andaz Napa, a boutique Hyatt hotel, and Archer Hotel Napa, with its rooftop bar, are both in downtown Napa, a few minutes from the first stop. The day runs about six and a quarter hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.
About 5 minutes away. Howell Mountain Cabernet from Toby and Dawn Forman's hand-farmed estate, poured at a private Estate Experience in downtown Napa. The fee is $200 per couple, fully waived with a six-bottle purchase of the Howell Mountain Cabernet; we plan about an hour. By request through the winery; we arrange it on your behalf.
About 10 minutes away. A Mexican-American family winery founded by a vineyard manager from Michoacán, with small, personal tastings and barrel sessions in its south Napa tasting room. The Tasting Room Flight is $55 and the Signature Winery Tour & Tasting $75, about 90 minutes. By reservation; days and hours are confirmed when we book.
About 10 minutes away. Lunch at Angèle, a French brasserie on the Napa River in downtown Napa, serving lunch daily from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 20 minutes away. A small co-fermented Napa label poured in The Caves at Soda Canyon, an underground winery with a terrace looking down the valley. The cave tour and tasting of four wines plus a barrel sample is $50, about 90 minutes. By appointment, with seatings daily at 10 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
Back by about 4:15 p.m., about six and a quarter hours after pickup.
About $205 to $225 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.
Greater Fool seats its last tasting at 2:30 p.m., so we keep lunch on time; Tobias and Encanto confirm their times when we book. The day runs a little past six hours; extra time is billed by the hour. Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting.
