About the Winery

Eisele Vineyard sits on an alluvial fan east of Calistoga, sheltered by the Palisades. It was first planted in the 1880s, and Milton and Barbara Eisele bought the 162-acre property in 1969. Their 1971 Eisele Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, made with Paul Draper, was one of California's first vineyard-designated wines. Bart and Daphne Araujo bought it in 1990, built its first winery and made the estate famous as Araujo.

The Araujos turned to organic farming in 1998 and were among the first Napa Valley vintners to farm biodynamically, from 2000. In 2013 François-Henri Pinault, whose family owns Château Latour, became the estate's steward, and the wines are now sold as Eisele Vineyard. The 38-acre vineyard of cobbly volcanic soils is cooled by westerly breezes through the Chalk Hill Gap, and Cabernet Sauvignon leads the lineup.

This is not a place you can drop in on. The estate says it is closed to the public, and private experiences are extended to its loyal collectors. Members sign in to request a visit, and everyone else joins the waiting list. If you are on the list, we drive you to the gate and plan the rest of the day around the time the estate sets.

Tasting Fees

Tasting fees to be verified upon reservation. Eisele Vineyard does not publish visit details; private experiences are arranged for members.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

10:00 · Pickup at Four Seasons Napa Valley or Indian Springs

Both are minutes from Pickett Road: Four Seasons Napa Valley on the Silverado Trail is about 5 minutes away, and Indian Springs, the historic hot springs resort in downtown Calistoga, about 8. The day below fits a six-hour tour, and extra time can be added by the hour.

10:15 · Eisele Vineyard Estate

A private visit for members, at the time the estate sets. Eisele Vineyard does not publish the length or format of a visit, so we allow about an hour and a quarter.

11:40 · Canard Vineyard

About 10 minutes away. A small Calistoga estate making hand-crafted wines since 1984, with nine single-vineyard wines each year from dry-farmed grapes. The Estate Tasting is a private, seated tasting of five estate wines with cheese and charcuterie ($75); the Reserve Tasting is $150. By appointment only.

12:55 · Lunch at Sam's Social Club

About 8 minutes away. Lunch at Sam's Social Club at Indian Springs in Calistoga, a sit-down restaurant named for town founder Samuel Brannan, serving lunch Monday through Friday and brunch on weekends. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

2:00 · Davis Estates

About 8 minutes away. A Howard Backen designed winery on the Silverado Trail with 11,000 square feet of caves and wide views over the north valley. The Napa Cave Tour and Wine Tasting walks the vineyard, winery and caves, then sits you at a private table with small bites ($125, about 90 minutes, at 2 p.m.). By reservation, up to 6 guests.

3:30 · Back to your hotel

Back by about 3:45 p.m., within six hours of pickup.

Optional: Chateau Montelena

Adds about an hour. The stone chateau north of Calistoga whose 1973 Chardonnay won the 1976 Paris Tasting. A Taste of Montelena is offered daily to walk-ins ($65, about 45 minutes, 21 and over); the tasting room closes at 4 p.m.

About $200 per person in tasting fees for Canard and Davis Estates, plus any fee for the Eisele visit, which the estate confirms. Fees are paid directly to each winery.

Eisele Vineyard hosts members only, by request. If you are not on its list, we keep the rest of the day and add another estate in its place.
