The idea for Dokdo Wine began in 2007, and after three years of research the first wine was released to the public. The winery is named for the island of Dokdo: rather than dwell on the long dispute over who owns it, the founders wanted a wine that celebrates its scenery and the pleasure of sharing a bottle. Emmanuel Lee, who led the company at the start, has been president again since 2024.
Robert Shawn Denkler (1949 to 2020) was a co-founder and the original winemaker, making Dokdo's wine from 2008; the winery remembers him as a friend and mentor. The signature is the 40240 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Reserve, with vintages from 2018 to 2022 currently offered, alongside a 2022 Sauvignon Blanc.
Dokdo sells its wines online at dokdowineshop.com, mostly in three- and six-bottle sets, and a short film on the site walks you through the winery's story. It publishes no tasting room or visiting program, so it does not receive visitors. The day below heads east of the city of Napa to family estates with caves and private tastings.
Dokdo Winery does not offer tastings.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Pickup at 10:00 a.m. from a nearby hotel such as Silverado Resort or Andaz Napa.
Since Dokdo Winery does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do. Silverado Resort is about 10 minutes from the first stop and Andaz Napa in downtown Napa about 15. The day fits about six hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.
About 10 minutes away. A family label pouring single-vineyard wines from 15 of Napa Valley's sub-regions at a private estate tasting on Old Soda Springs Road, east of the city of Napa. The Vice Estate Experience is $145, prepaid, for 2 to 6 guests; we allow about 90 minutes. By appointment, Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
About 12 minutes away. A small family vineyard on the Silverado Trail whose private visit starts with a walk through the caves where the wines are made, then barrel samples and a formal tasting. $75 per person, by appointment; we allow about 75 minutes.
About 12 minutes away. Lunch at Mustards Grill on Highway 29 just north of Yountville, a Napa Valley favorite for more than 40 years, open daily for lunch. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 10 minutes away. Race car driver Randy Lewis's Cabernet house, now pouring at a new estate on the Silverado Trail with pairings from a Michelin-starred chef. The Legacy Tasting is $80; we plan about an hour. Open daily, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; reservations highly recommended.
Back by about 4:15 p.m., about six hours after pickup.
About $300 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.
The Vice hosts Tuesday to Saturday, so plan this day for one of those days. Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting.
