About the Winery

Ray Hanson Jr. spent 29 years as an Alameda firefighter, and his Napa story started in 1993 with a first taste of Caymus Cabernet at the Harvest Inn. In 2004 he met Deborah, a Napa Valley native, and two years later they married. Exploring the valley, they found a one-acre property at the foothills of Mount George in the Coombsville AVA and bought it two weeks later.

The small vineyard yields about two tons of Cabernet Sauvignon a year, and for a time Caymus farmed it for its own Cabernet. Ray took over the farming in 2010, and after retiring in 2013 he took the grapes to a custom winery to make Destiny's own wine. Eric Lyman is the winemaker. The list includes Coombsville Estate Cabernet and a Proprietor's Red, an estate rosé and a Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc.

Destiny sells through its website, local delivery and a wine club with one fall shipment a year, limited to 85 members; once a year, members spend an afternoon with Debbye and Ray. There is no tasting room or public tasting program, so the estate does not receive visitors. The day below visits Coombsville's neighbors and downtown Napa, all a short drive from the vineyard.

2:40 · Chris Corley Wines

About 15 minutes away. Back by about 4:30 p.m., about six and three-quarter hours after pickup.

About $225 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.

Tobias and Chris Corley set times by request, so we confirm the order when we book. The day runs past six hours; extra time is billed by the hour. Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting.

Every tour is custom. This day is a starting point: your chauffeur will shape it around what matters to you, and we plan multi-day tours for guests who want to see more of wine country.
