Chris Corley learned winemaking in the cellar of Monticello Vineyards, which his father, Jay Corley, founded in 1970. As a teenager he rolled barrels and punched down small fermentation bins, then studied at Santa Rosa Junior College and Napa Valley College. He has spent about 40 years making wine in Napa Valley, with projects in Baja's Valle de Guadalupe, Taiwan and New York's Champlain Valley along the way.
After nearly four decades, Chris turned to a small collection of his own, made entirely on his own terms. Three labels each follow a different thread: Chris Corley Wines, with the Family Reserve Cabernet and the Middle C red; CrauforD, with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon bottlings named Ben Nevis, Piper Doon and Tattoo; and Barrelhead Cabernet. His aim is to keep the winemaker in the background and let the vineyard speak.
The visit is an afternoon in the vines. Chris and Julianna host every tasting personally, pouring current and library wines in the middle of a working vineyard, with the vines close enough to touch, the valley open around you and light seasonal bites. Seatings are very limited and booked by email or phone. You can take home any wine poured, including allocations not sold elsewhere.
$75 for the Private Tasting with Winemaker Chris Corley, current and library releases with light seasonal bites; one fee is waived for every three bottles purchased. The length is not published; we allow about 90 minutes.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
