About the Winery
Cavalli e Vigne means horses and vines in Italian, and the name fits. It is the estate wine of Toyon Farm in Los Carneros, a vineyard that is also an equestrian facility, where the Bonavito family rides every day. Natalia Bonavito, who fell for horses as a child through The Black Stallion, came home to Napa during the pandemic, studied enology at UC Davis and now runs the winery; her sister Danielle, a dressage rider, is co-proprietor.
Toyon Farm's 35 acres of vines were first planted in 1993, bordering the Hyde, Cakebread and Bayview vineyards, and the fruit has gone into vineyard-designate wines from Fait Main, Ancien, Alpha Omega and Saintsbury. Consulting winemaker Ken Bernards guides the cellar, with punch-downs by hand and some whole-cluster fermentation. The 2021 Pinot Noir earned 94 points from Jeb Dunnuck and the 2023 Chardonnay 92 from Wine Enthusiast.
The estate hosts private experiences by appointment only, arranged by email, and allocation members taste on the property at no charge. Fees and times are not published, so we confirm them when we request your visit. Expect a quiet visit on a working ranch, with horses, western-facing vineyard slopes and the views the farm is known for. Otherwise the wines are sold through the allocation and at select restaurants.
