Cana Ranch is the project of Tyler and Kelly Mullman, a Houston couple with roots in Oklahoma and Texas who fell for Napa Valley on an anniversary trip. It is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and its purpose is jobs: the founders want to create employment and job training in wine for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The name pairs Cana, where water was turned into wine, with a nod to the ranch country they grew up in.
The first wine is the 2024 Cabernet Sauvignon, released in fall 2026. The fruit comes from the Tournahu Vineyard in the St. Helena AVA, and the winemaker is Richard Frederick. Proceeds support partner programs, including WineBev Services, a program of United Cerebral Palsy of the North Bay that employs adults with disabilities in the Napa wine trade. The long-term goal is to own a Napa Valley vineyard and winery staffed by the people the label supports.
For now there is no winery or tasting room, so Cana Ranch does not receive visitors. Bottles are reserved through canaranch.org with a tax-deductible donation, singly or through the wine club, and the label also holds occasional release events. The day below starts at the family estate where the same vineyard grows and the same winemaker works, then visits two more estates that host.
Cana Ranch does not offer tastings.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Since Cana Ranch does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do. Harvest Inn and Alila Napa Valley are both at the south end of St. Helena, about 10 minutes from the first stop. The day runs about six and a half hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.
About 10 minutes away. The family estate just north of St. Helena where the Tournahu Vineyard grows, and where winemaker Rich Frederick also makes the family's own Cabernet, so you taste the same ground in another hand. Not open to the public; private tastings by appointment, arranged with the family. Fees to be verified upon reservation; we plan about an hour.
About 20 minutes away. An estate in the eastern hills at the base of Howell Mountain, past Lake Hennessey, where a private behind-the-scenes tour ends in the caves with the reserve wines. Privately hosted by reservation, booked well ahead; fees to be verified upon reservation. We plan about 90 minutes.
About 20 minutes away. Lunch at Rutherford Grill at the Rutherford crossroads, a sit-down grill open daily. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 10 minutes away. A historic family estate on the west side of St. Helena, where a guided walk through the organic, biodynamic vineyard comes before a seated tasting of Sauvignon Blanc and the estate Cabernet. The Estate Tour & Tasting is $150, about 90 minutes. By appointment on weekdays, with at least 24 hours' notice.
Back by about 4:20 p.m., six hours and twenty minutes after pickup.
About $150 per person at Spottswoode, plus the fees Alioto-Tournahu and Aonair confirm when they set the private tastings, paid directly to each winery.
Spottswoode hosts on weekdays, and Alioto-Tournahu and Aonair set private times with us, so this day suits a weekday and the order may shift once the estates confirm.
