About the Winery

Bydand, said BUY-danned, is the Gordon family motto, meaning stand and fight. Winemaker Colin Gordon founded the label in 2014 after working with Tim Beranek at Kosta Browne and Outpost, and the two share the winemaking and running of the business. Bydand began on the Sonoma Coast with Chardonnay from Roberts Road Vineyard and Pinot Noir from Umino Vineyard, both in the Petaluma Gap.

The estate lies in the foothills of the Vaca Mountains on the southeastern side of Napa Valley, in the Coombsville AVA, where fog and cool bay breezes bring minerality and pure fruit. The vineyard is farmed organically, and the estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc are made in a classic, Old World style, balanced and expressive, each meant to tell the story of where it grew.

Bydand sells through its mailing list and a membership with two shipments a year, Chardonnay and estate Cabernet in spring and Pinot Noir and the estate red in fall, with priority access to back vintages and large formats. Orders also go by phone or email. The winery publishes no tasting room or visiting program, so it does not receive visitors. The day below takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do.
