Bunter Spring Winery is a small family winery in the Coombsville AVA, in the southeast corner of Napa Valley, licensed in 2008 by Mark Bunter. His start came in 1977 on the all-volunteer weekend bottling line at Tulocay Winery, just up the hill, and he spent thirty years in the cellars, labs, bottling lines and tasting rooms of names such as Sebastiani, Mondavi and Winiarski. After years of garage winemaking, his father Arnie helped plant a small vineyard on his own property, and in time the family Syrah was sold instead of given away.
Most vintages run a few hundred cases, mostly for the family, with the rest sold to friends on the mailing list and to a few restaurants and wine shops. The aim is balanced, interesting wine made with few or no additives and low or no sulfites, and every label lists the ingredients, the actual sulfite level and the actual alcohol level.
Bunter Spring is not open to the public and does not take appointments. The day below goes to three estates in Coombsville and on the Silverado Trail that do host, including Tulocay, where Mark Bunter got his start.
Bunter Spring does not offer tastings. On the day below, the tasting fees are $150 at Palmaz, $35 at Tulocay and $80 at Darioush, about $265 per person in all, paid directly to each winery.
Tasting fees as of October 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
