About the Winery

Stan and Joan Boyd bought their property on Big Ranch Road in Napa in 1998, with a vision that very special wines and memories could be made there. Since then the family has planted more than 20,000 vines of Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier and Cabernet Sauvignon, and made its first wine from the 2000 vintage.

The vineyard is in the Oak Knoll District, with a slightly cooler climate and heavy clay soils, which the family says produce Merlot and Syrah used in many of Napa Valley's most sought-after wines. Boyd still sells more than half its grapes to other premium wineries and keeps the best for very limited bottlings, including large formats up to 6 liters.

This is a working family vineyard, not a tasting room on the highway. The Napa Valley Vintners list Boyd as not open to the public, with tastings by appointment only, so a visit is a quiet, personal look at a grower's estate on the valley floor. We request it for you and plan about an hour; the format and fee are confirmed when we book.
