Becklyn Cellars sums itself up in four words: by friends, for friends. It describes itself as a boutique winery at heart, born from a dream to create something extraordinary from the simple love of wine, and it treats each bottle as a reason to gather with friends and family. The winery does not publish its founders' names or a founding year.
The winemaker is Mike Smith, known for a purist approach: wine that honors the grape, the terrain and the vintage, made with old-world techniques refined over decades. Production is intentionally small, with a selective use of new French oak barrels and carefully chosen fruit. The lineup is limited-production Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and a Rutherford Sauvignon Blanc.
Becklyn sells only by allocation to its mailing list and publishes no tasting room or visiting program, so it does not receive visitors. Since Mike Smith makes the wine, the day below includes his own label, Myriad, poured at Brasswood, along with a private multisensory studio in St. Helena and a winemaker's living room at the top of Spring Mountain.
Becklyn Cellars does not offer tastings.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Pickup at 10:00 a.m. from a nearby hotel such as Harvest Inn or Alila Napa Valley.
Since Becklyn does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do, including the winemaker's own label. Harvest Inn and Alila Napa Valley are both in St. Helena, about 8 minutes from the first stop. The day runs about six and a quarter hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.
About 8 minutes away. A family winery's private studio in St. Helena, where each wine is poured with its own playlist and imagery. The Private Portfolio Tasting is $95 to $125, 60 minutes (we confirm the price when we book). By reservation; every visit is private, and the time is confirmed when we book.
About 8 minutes away. Winemaker Mike Smith's own Cabernet label from Beckstoffer Dr. Crane, To Kalon and Georges III, poured at Brasswood north of St. Helena. $125, waived with purchase, about 90 minutes and usually four to six wines. By appointment, with priority for mailing list members; we arrange it on your behalf.
About 8 minutes away. Lunch at The Charter Oak in St. Helena, a sit-down restaurant cooking over an open hearth, open daily from 11:30 a.m. (brunch from 11 a.m. on weekends). Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 20 minutes away. A small family Merlot estate at the top of Spring Mountain, where tastings are hosted in the winemaker's living room. Home Sweet Home is $60, about an hour. By appointment, Monday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Back by about 4:15 p.m., about six and a quarter hours after pickup.
About $280 to $310 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.
NEOTEMPO and Myriad confirm their times when we book, and Paloma hosts Monday to Saturday, so plan this day for one of those days. Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting.
