About the Winery

Bankfield Wines is the label of its founder, who signs as Doc T. After more than 20 years of drinking fine wine from around the world, he started with a single barrel of Napa wine for friends and family, and it grew into a small label. The name comes from the Bankfield Bridge in northern Ontario, his favorite place to gather with friends for the May walleye run, and the label is his own pen sketch of the bridge.

Bankfield leases rows and blocks from growers in Napa and Sonoma rather than owning vineyards, and makes only as much as the chosen blocks give, sometimes a single barrel. The Valley Cabernet series is Bordeaux-style Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley; the 2019 harvest gave four single barrels from Oak Knoll, Rutherford and Oakville, and an Oakville barrel became the Bankfield Reserve, aged 22 months in new French oak. There is also the Creekside Cerise Pinot Noir from Rodgers Creek Vineyard in the Petaluma Gap, and a white from a Yountville vineyard.

The wines are sold online and to allocation members, and the website lists no tasting room or appointments. The day below goes to three Oakville estates that host, in one of the districts Bankfield draws on.

Tasting Fees

Bankfield Wines does not offer tastings.

On the day below, Groth's Oakville Roots tasting is $75, Nickel & Nickel's Uncork & Unwind is $75 and Turnbull's Gallery Tasting is $65.

Tasting fees as of October 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

A Suggested Six-Hour Day

Pickup at 10:00 a.m. from a Yountville hotel such as Bardessono or Hotel Yountville.

10:00 · Pickup at Bardessono or Hotel Yountville

Since Bankfield Wines does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do. Both hotels are in Yountville, about 10 minutes from the first stop. The day runs about five hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.

10:15 · Groth Vineyards & Winery

About 10 minutes away. The Oakville family estate behind Napa's first 100-point Cabernet, with an insectary garden and cellar tours. Oakville Roots is $75, 60 minutes. Open seven days a week by appointment.

11:25 · Nickel & Nickel

About 5 minutes away. Single-vineyard wines tasted at a restored farmstead on Highway 29, much in the spirit of Bankfield's single-block bottlings. Uncork & Unwind, four wines in about an hour, is $75. Open daily 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

12:35 · Lunch at Oakville Grocery

A short drive away. Lunch at Oakville Grocery, a Napa Valley stop since 1881, with wood-fired pizza and artisan sandwiches. We confirm hours when we book. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

1:45 · Turnbull Wine Cellars

About 3 minutes away. An all-estate Oakville winery with a rotating photography gallery. The Gallery Tasting of four current releases is $65, at your own pace. Open daily 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; walk-ins welcome for the Gallery Tasting.

2:50 · Back to your hotel

Back by about 3:05 p.m., about five hours after pickup.

About $215 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.

All three are open daily. The day is short by design; a fourth stop or a longer private tasting, such as Turnbull's two-hour Private Estate Tasting ($110), fits easily.

Every tour is custom. This day is a starting point: your chauffeur will shape it around what matters to you, and we plan multi-day tours for guests who want to see more of wine country.
