About the Winery

Dan Dexter and his wife Julie own AvinoDos, whose name means wines from two. Dan grew up working the farm fields of central Illinois that his family has tended since homesteading there in 1836, and he started AvinoDos in 2012. He is also the winemaker, and the winery says a visit has a good chance of landing you in real production: harvest, crush, bottling or a barrel tasting with Dan.

AvinoDos makes small lots of single-vineyard, single-varietal wines and buys only from small growers whose vineyards are 9 acres or less, so each bottle speaks for one farmer's site. The list runs from Los Carneros Blanc de Blancs and Blanc de Noir sparkling wines to Cabernet Sauvignon from the Stags Leap District and Diamond Mountain District, and the 2022 Blanc de Blancs won a platinum medal.

The winery is in the Crusher District, a business park in south Napa with about 20 small wineries, a few minutes from downtown. Every tasting pours five or more wines in the tasting room or the fountain courtyard, hosted by a wine educator, and includes a guided tour of the cellar and barrel room with the production team. Guests often meet the owners.

AvinoDos hosts Wednesday to Sunday and Truchard Monday to Friday, so this day works Wednesday to Friday.
