Au Sommet began in 2007, when winemaker Heidi Peterson Barrett partnered with her longtime friend John Schwartz to make a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from mountain vineyards on Atlas Peak; Jim Barbour is also a partner today. Heidi grew up in a Napa winemaking family, her past clients include Screaming Eagle and Grace Family, and Robert Parker dubbed her the "first lady of wine."
The partners bought a 7-acre vineyard on a 45-acre property atop Atlas Peak, 2,100 feet above sea level and one of the highest vineyard sites in Napa Valley. Above the fog, the Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot vines get more sun, cool nights and thin volcanic soils. The 2023 vintage, 97% Cabernet and 3% Petit Verdot, earned 98 points from Lisa Perrotti-Brown.
The wine is sold by allocation: the 2024 is offered at $750 per three-bottle case, reserved with an order form or by phone and shipping in fall 2026, with a few large formats hand-signed by Heidi. Au Sommet publishes no tasting room or visiting program, so it does not receive visitors. Heidi's own label, La Sirena in Calistoga, does host guests.
Au Sommet does not offer tastings.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Pickup at 9:45 a.m. from a nearby hotel such as Silverado Resort or Milliken Creek Inn.
Since Au Sommet does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do. Silverado Resort, at the foot of Atlas Peak, is about 12 minutes from the first stop, and Milliken Creek Inn about 15 minutes; we start a little early for the 10 a.m. cave seating. The day runs about six and three-quarter hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.
About 15 minutes away. The Buoncristiani brothers' family winery in The Caves at Soda Canyon, built entirely underground, with a view down the canyon toward the Stags Leap District. The Signature Tour & Tasting is $85, about 90 minutes. Seatings at 10 a.m., 12:30 and 2:30 p.m., requested at least a week ahead.
About 20 minutes away. Lunch at Oenotri on First Street in downtown Napa, an Italian restaurant serving lunch daily from 11:30 a.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 12 minutes away. Owners Anne and George host every visit themselves, moving between the terrace, the winery and the caves, with music paired to the wines. The hosted experience is $80; we allow about 90 minutes (visits can run up to two hours). By appointment.
About 12 minutes away. An Atlas Peak estate that calls itself members-only and hosts by invitation, seven days a week. Its Apis experience for 2 to 6 guests runs 90 to 150 minutes, and the fee is set by the estate. We send the request; whether it can host is the estate's decision.
Back by about 4:35 p.m., about six and three-quarter hours after pickup.
About $165 per person in tasting fees for Buoncristiani and Mount George, paid directly to each winery; Sommras's fee is to be verified upon reservation.
Sommras hosts by invitation and Mount George by appointment, so we confirm both before your day and may adjust the order. Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting.
Every tour is custom. This day is a starting point: your chauffeur will shape it around what matters to you, and we plan multi-day tours for guests who want to see more of wine country.
