About the Winery

Arnyca grew out of a friendship. Steve Distler, born in Queens, taught at a sign language school in New York and worked at Italian Wine Merchants before a four-day trip to Napa in 2007 made him move west; he later opened a wine bar in downtown Napa. Luis Pettinato, from Buenos Aires, trained at Le Cordon Bleu and spent 16 years in kitchens, including at Meadowood. The name joins Argentina, New York and California.

The lineup includes Napa Valley and Knights Valley Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon from the St. Helena AVA, a sparkling Brut, Albariño and a rosé of Grenache, some of it from Alloria Vineyards in the Sierra Foothills. Sign language is Steve's first language, and the hand signs on the labels are a tribute to his parents and Deaf culture.

Arnyca has no tasting room. Instead, Steve brings the tasting to you: in the winery's words, "Want a private tasting? We will travel." The wines are sold online, through the wine club and by newsletter, so there is no winery to visit. The day below takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do host.

Tasting Fees

Arnyca Cellars does not offer tastings at a winery.

A Suggested Six-Hour Day

Pickup at 10:00 a.m. from a nearby hotel such as Carneros Resort and Spa or Stanly Ranch.

10:00 · Pickup at Carneros Resort and Spa or Stanly Ranch

Since Arnyca does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do. Both resorts are in Carneros, about 5 to 8 minutes from Domaine Carneros. The day below fits a six-hour tour, and extra time can be added by the hour.

10:15 · Domaine Carneros

About 5 to 8 minutes away. A French-style château on a Carneros hilltop and one of the best-known sparkling wine houses in the valley, with a terrace that looks out over the rolling vineyards. The Daily Tasting Experience, a flight of four sparkling wines, starts at $45 for about an hour. By appointment daily from 10 a.m.; everyone must be 21 or older.

11:30 · Hudson Ranch

About 12 minutes away. A 2,000-acre Carneros ranch of vineyards, Tuscan olives, heritage livestock and lakes looking toward San Pablo Bay. A private outdoor tasting by appointment; we allow about an hour, and any fee is confirmed by the ranch.

12:50 · Lunch at Angèle

About 15 minutes away. Lunch at Angèle, a French brasserie on the Napa River in downtown Napa, serving lunch daily from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

2:25 · Hope & Grace Wines

About 15 minutes away. A small Yountville winery founded by winemaker Charles Hendricks, with seated tastings indoors or on a pet-friendly patio. The Reserve Library Tasting is $75; we allow about an hour. Open daily 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; reservations recommended.

3:25 · Back to your hotel

Back by about 3:50 p.m., within six hours of pickup.

From about $120 per person in published tasting fees for Domaine Carneros and Hope & Grace, paid directly to each winery; Hudson Ranch confirms its fee when the visit is arranged.

Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting. The fourth stop is there if the day allows.

Every tour is custom. This day is a starting point: your chauffeur will shape it around what matters to you, and we plan multi-day tours for guests who want to see more of wine country.
