About the Winery

In 1997 Steve and Linda Goldfarb, newly retired from Steve's San Francisco law firm, bought a St. Helena home with six rows of Cabernet Sauvignon in the backyard. They made wine in their garage with no training at all, and the praise for that first vintage led them to build a winery. Their first commercial release, in 2000, was just 300 cases and sold out right away. They call themselves accidental vintners.

Before building, they asked 30 small Napa Valley wineries what to include, and not one refused to help. The stone winery, designed by Jon Lail and Associates and built by Eberlin Construction, opened for the 2002 harvest beside the organic estate vineyard. The vines grow in the St. Helena AVA on gravelly, cobbly soils left by Sulphur Creek as it flowed from the Mayacamas, planted to Cabernet Sauvignon with Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc.

Visits are private and intimate, hosted at the estate by prior appointment, Monday through Saturday. The lineup is short: the estate Cabernet Sauvignon, made to age, and Designation, a red blend from a handful of the best barrels in the cellar. The hospitality team has French Laundry and Mayacamas roots, and we book directly with them.

Tasting Fees

Tasting fees to be verified upon reservation. Anomaly does not publish a tasting fee; it is confirmed when the appointment is made.
