Peter Thompson first visited Napa Valley in 1973, as a college student in Southern California, and set his sights on the wine business. In 1995 he bought undeveloped land on Diamond Mountain and put together a team of experienced professionals to carve a vineyard out of the native scrub and brush, with well-known viticulturist Rex Geitner guiding the clearing and planting.
The vineyard has 13 acres of red grapes on a hillside parcel of about 60 acres at around 2,000 feet, on the highest slopes of the Diamond Mountain District. The appellation, in the Mayacamas between St. Helena and Calistoga, is known for varied volcanic soils, microclimates and generous winter rain. The estate also has one of the deepest wells in Napa Valley, 850 feet. Cabernet Sauvignon is the focus.
Andrew Geoffrey's website invites messages about the wine and lists no tasting room, tours or visits, so buying starts with a note through its contact form. Since the vineyard does not host, the day below takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do, starting a short way down Diamond Mountain Road at Diamond Creek, which has made wine there since 1968.
Andrew Geoffrey does not offer tastings.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

The day runs about seven and a quarter hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.
About 15 minutes away. Just down Diamond Mountain Road, the estate that has made four single-vineyard Cabernets since 1968 from Volcanic Hill, Gravelly Meadow, Red Rock Terrace and the tiny Lake vineyard, each bottled on its own. The Signature Tasting is $250, a private seated tasting followed by a guided UTV tour of the estate, about 90 minutes. By private appointment, requested ahead; no walk-ins.
About 15 minutes away. Lunch at The Charter Oak in St. Helena, Christopher and Martina Kostow's family-style New American restaurant, open daily from 11:30 a.m. (11 a.m. on weekends). Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 10 minutes away. A small estate at the foot of Howell Mountain making single-vineyard Cabernet, including Beckstoffer To Kalon, in a historic stone winery. The Estate Experience is $175, a seated tasting with a small food pairing, about 90 minutes. Open daily, with tastings starting between 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., prepaid.
About 12 minutes away. A Cabernet estate on the benchland north of St. Helena in a winery designed by Howard Backen, whose 2007 Estate Cabernet Wine Spectator named the No. 4 wine in the world. The Revana Estate Cellar Experience is $125, 90 minutes. Private tastings by reservation, daily from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Back by about 4:55 p.m., about seven and a quarter hours after pickup.
About $550 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.
All three wineries and the restaurant are open daily, though Diamond Creek confirms each visit and gives priority to mailing list members. The day runs about seven and a quarter hours, back by about 4:55 p.m.
