About the Winery

Afterwords belongs to Anton and Lisa Van de Plas. Anton, from the Netherlands, and Lisa built a publishing business together, from law books to an equestrian magazine, before moving to wine country in 2012. After a decade helping other wineries, they started their own label in 2021, and the name marks the move from publishing words to making wine.

The wines are made by Julien Fayard, a winemaker with more than two decades in Napa Valley, in ultra-small lots meant to be approachable young and still age well. The bottlings carry book titles, from Preface and Prologue to Narrative, Epilogue and Addendum, and Chapter GIII comes from the Georges III Vineyard in Rutherford.

The tasting lounge is 1315 NAPA on First Street, which Afterwords shares with Lisa's lifestyle boutique, LIV Studio. Guests can drop in for a glass and a browse, or sit down for a guided flight of four or six wines with nuts and crackers or cheese and charcuterie. It is a relaxed, conversational start to a day, and our chauffeur waits right outside.

Tasting Fees

$45 for The Discovery, a guided tasting of four wines with nuts and crackers, about 60 minutes. $75 for The Complete Story, six wines including single-vineyard bottlings, with cheese and charcuterie, about 90 minutes. The Boutique (a glass of wine with nuts in LIV Studio) needs no reservation; it is priced at the lounge.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Every tour is custom. This day is a starting point: your chauffeur will shape it around what matters to you, and we plan multi-day tours for guests who want to see more of wine country.
