Abiouness Wines is the label of winemaker Nicole Abiouness, who left Virginia for Napa Valley in 1995 to study at The Culinary Institute of America and started in the cellar at Swanson Vineyards. She then worked harvests at Yalumba in Australia's Barossa Valley, Chateau La Tour Blanche in Sauternes, where she also earned a degree in viticulture and oenology, and Domaine Comte Armand in Pommard. Back in Napa she worked at Chappellet and at Luna Vineyards under John Kongsgaard, rising to cellar master, and made her first wine, a Sangiovese, in 1999.
She owns no vineyards and works closely with growers at organic and sustainable sites. In 2000 Abiouness was the first winery to bottle a vineyard-designate Stanly Ranch Carneros Pinot Noir, from a block of Martini clone planted in 1971; Stanly Ranch, first planted in the 1870s, is the easternmost vineyard on the Napa side of Carneros. Today she makes two Stanly Ranch Pinots, one a blend of clones 114 and 777 and one from Block 19, all Pommard clone, along with wines from Eaglepoint Ranch in Mendocino and Van der Kamp Vineyard on Sonoma Mountain.
There is no tasting room. The website says Nicole enjoys tasting with people and asks them to call her, and it lists Napa Valley restaurants that have poured the wines, among them Mustards, Bouchon Bistro, Ad Hoc and Solbar. The day below starts in St. Helena and stops for lunch at Mustards, with three estates that do host.
Abiouness Wines does not publish a tasting fee or tasting room.
On the day below, tastings are $75 at Corison, $45 at HALL St. Helena and $50 at Frog's Leap, paid directly to each winery.
Tasting fees as of October 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
