Rutherford · Napa Valley
A relaxed, organic, dry-farmed winery around a red barn in Rutherford, and a suggested six-hour day of tasting around it.

Frog's Leap was founded in 1982 by John Williams, Julie Johnson and Larry Turley, and took its name from Turley's property, known as the Frog Farm, where the partners planted their first Sauvignon Blanc. In 1994 the Williams family moved the winery to Rutherford, to a historic red barn renovated in time for that year's harvest.
It has long been a leader in farming: the vineyards were certified organic in 2002 and are dry farmed, without irrigation, and in 2005 the winery built what it calls the first LEED-certified winery building in California. The Williams family still runs it, with Rory Williams now leading viticulture and winemaking.
The feel is easygoing and generous, with tastings in the gardens behind the red barn and wines led by Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Zinfandel and Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon. It is one of the most welcoming visits in the valley.
$50 for the garden tasting. $75 for the vineyard house tour and tasting. $100 for the 90-minute Rooted in Rutherford experience. One tasting fee is refunded for every six bottles purchased.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
