About the Winery

3/Thirds is a small-lot Napa Valley collaboration among three winemakers who are also friends. Jean Hoefliger trained at Changins in Switzerland and worked at Lynch-Bages, Meerlust and Newton. Aaron Pott studied at UC Davis and the Université de Bourgogne and worked at Opus One, Newton and Château Troplong Mondot. Bordeaux consultant Michel Rolland, the third partner, advised wineries around the world until his death in 2026.

The idea is to let each partner's style show in one wine, drawing on several Napa Valley appellations to balance structure and elegance. The first release, the 2021 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Cabernet Franc, came out in November 2025. Production is small, and the wine is sold directly by the partners.

3/Thirds sells its wine through its website and publishes no tasting room or visiting program, so it does not receive visitors. The closest you can get to Hoefliger's thinking in a glass is The Debate, the single-vineyard label he founded, which starts the day below in St. Helena, before Oakville library Cabernets and a tour of Joe Heitz's original home ranch.

Tasting Fees

3/Thirds does not offer tastings.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Pickup at 10:00 a.m. from a nearby hotel such as Harvest Inn or Southbridge Napa Valley.

10:00 · Pickup at Harvest Inn or Southbridge Napa Valley

Since 3/Thirds does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do, starting with Jean Hoefliger's own label. Harvest Inn and Southbridge Napa Valley are both in St. Helena, about 5 minutes from the first stop. The day runs about six and three quarter hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.

10:15 · The Debate

About 5 minutes away. Jean Hoefliger's single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignons and Cabernet Francs, poured side by side in a private salon in downtown St. Helena. The Collection Tasting is $75, about 90 minutes. By appointment; tastings are privately hosted.

12:00 · Lunch at Rutherford Grill

About 10 minutes away. Lunch at Rutherford Grill at the Rutherford crossroads, a sit-down grill open daily. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

1:20 · Kelleher Family Vineyard

About 8 minutes away. A family's ten-acre Oakville Cabernet vineyard beside its own restaurant, Brix, where library Cabernets are poured in the gardens and vines. The Cabernet Vertical is $95, 60 to 90 minutes. By appointment; closed Monday and Tuesday.

2:55 · Haynes Vineyard

About 15 minutes away. A tour of Joe Heitz's original Home Ranch on Taplin Road, then a seated tasting of wines from what the winery calls the oldest Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vines left in Napa Valley, planted in Coombsville in 1967. $150 plus tax, 90 to 120 minutes. By reservation, daily 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

4:35 · Back to your hotel

Back by about 4:45 p.m., about six and three quarter hours after pickup.

About $320 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries (plus tax at Haynes), paid directly to each winery.

Kelleher is closed Monday and Tuesday, so plan this day for Wednesday to Sunday. The Haynes tour runs up to two hours, so the day runs past six hours; extra time is billed by the hour. Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting.

Every tour is custom. This day is a starting point: your chauffeur will shape it around what matters to you, and we plan multi-day tours for guests who want to see more of wine country.
