About the Property
RustRidge Bed & Breakfast is a ranch-style inn on the 200-acre RustRidge Ranch in Chiles Valley, in the hills east of St. Helena. The ranch is part of the 1844 Rancho Catacula land grant to Colonel Joseph B. Chiles, with about 12 acres of vines, its own winery and thoroughbred racehorses.
Guests stay in an early-1940s ranch house decorated in Southwest style, with featherbeds, private bathrooms, decks and a beamed living room with a fireplace. A hearty ranch breakfast is served each morning, with evening wine and hors d'oeuvres in the country kitchen, plus tennis, a eucalyptus sauna and trails through the vineyards and hills.
It is also a quiet place to start a wine tour. Volker Eisele, Green & Red and Nichelini are all within about 10 minutes, and the Silverado Trail is about 25 minutes west. We are based in Calistoga, at the north end of the valley.
Getting Here From the Airport
Sonoma County Airport (STS): about 40 miles, 1 hour 15 minutes. The closest airport to RustRidge, and the easiest arrival: a small airport in Santa Rosa with no Bay Area traffic on the drive. Direct flights come in from Los Angeles, San Diego, Seattle, Portland, Phoenix, Denver, Dallas and more.
Sacramento (SMF): about 61 miles, 1 hour 55 minutes. Skips Bay Area traffic entirely.
Oakland (OAK): about 77 miles, 2 hours. Often a quieter airport than SFO.
San Francisco International (SFO): about 85 miles, 2 hours 10 minutes, and longer at busy times. The most flights, with a drive across the Bay Area.

About 10 minutes away. A hilltop winery above the Silverado Trail with a mile of wine caves. View of the Valley, five wines on the terrace, is $75 and runs 90 minutes. Reservations highly recommended.
2:30 · Maxville Lake Winery
About 25 minutes away. A 1,000-acre Chiles Valley estate with a private lake and vines planted in 1974, on the way back to the ranch. The Liquid Luxury tasting of five wines is $49 and runs about 90 minutes. By prepaid appointment only.

Optional: Nichelini Family Winery
Adds about an hour. A five-generation family winery on Sage Canyon Road, with a hand-hewn stone cellar from the 1890s. The Signature Tasting of five wines is $30. Open Friday to Sunday from 11 a.m., and Thursday afternoons.
