The Occidental Lodge is a 28-room 1970s motor lodge on the Bohemian Highway in Occidental, a small village in the redwoods of west Sonoma County that grew up in the logging and railroad boom of the late 1800s.
There is a swimming pool, and rooms run from standard kings and queens to the Sonoma and Russian River suites. The lodge sits in the middle of the village, a short walk from Negri's Italian Dinners & Joe's Bar, Howard Station Cafe and the Altamont General Store.
It is also an easy place to start a wine tour. Black Kite Cellars in Freestone is about 5 minutes away, and Marimar Estate and Dutton-Goldfield in the Green Valley are within about 20. We are based in Calistoga, in neighboring Napa Valley.
Sonoma County Airport (STS): about 16 miles, 40 minutes. The closest airport to The Occidental Lodge, and the easiest arrival: a small airport in Santa Rosa with no Bay Area traffic on the drive. Direct flights come in from Los Angeles, San Diego, Seattle, Portland, Phoenix, Denver, Dallas and more.
Oakland (OAK): about 79 miles, 2 hours. Often a quieter airport than SFO.
San Francisco International (SFO): about 79 miles, 2 hours 5 minutes, and longer at busy times. The most flights, with a drive across the Bay Area.
Sacramento (SMF): about 111 miles, 2 hours 45 minutes. Skips Bay Area traffic entirely, though it is the longest drive of the four.
Flying private? We also meet guests at the FBOs at STS and Napa County Airport (APC). See our Sonoma County Airport car service page for more on flying into STS.
