Charlie and Molly Meeker started making wine in a basement in the early 1970s and bought their first vineyard, at the end of West Dry Creek Road, in 1977. They founded The Meeker Vineyard in 1984 with Charlie as winemaker, while he worked full time in Los Angeles in the film business, as an attorney, producer and studio executive, making wine on weekends. When he became President of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in 1990, the family hired a full-time winemaker; in 1999 they left Los Angeles for good and Charlie went back to the cellar.
The first red release, a 1984 Zinfandel, won eight competition medals, and the 1990 Zinfandel was named among Wine Spectator's 100 best wines of the world. Charlie died in 2021, and the winery is still a family operation: Molly is President, and their son Lucas, who started out scrubbing tanks in 2007, is COO and head winemaker and designs the labels. The lineup runs from Meeker reds to the Hone and Snapshot series, a Pop Punk line, dessert wines and large-format bottles.
Tastings take place in the middle of the working cellar and on a secret patio, in a building Meeker shares with Longboard Vineyards; the entrance is on the left side, inside the gate. The family calls it fun and definitely not snobby, and guests can ask about winemaking and hear about forty years of adventures in the wine business. As Molly puts it, "We take nothing seriously but the wine itself."
$20 per person, waived or refunded with any wine purchase.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
