Star Song Winery is owned by Andrew Paul, who is also its winemaker. It was called Indian Leap until it was renamed, and its older library wines still carry the Indian Leap name, under which they won numerous awards. When the family bought the property it was undeveloped oak forest, with grinding rocks, arrowheads and other signs of the Miwok people who lived there, on land that was once part of General Vallejo's original grant.
The vineyard runs along a cleared ridge line on volcanic soil, with sunny days, cool nights and southwest winds. Two thirds of it is Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest is red Rhône varieties, Mourvèdre, Grenache, Cinsault and Carignan, blended into a wine called Synergy. It is farmed without pesticides, following organic principles, with native plants, a pond for bobcats, coyotes and foxes, and hawks and owls overhead; the vineyard has never needed netting, and one of the resident coyotes made it onto the label.
Visits are small and personal, with indoor and outdoor tasting spaces among oaks and manzanitas looking out over the Sonoma Valley, and the wines are tasted where they are grown. Tastings are free and by appointment on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month, which makes it an easy, relaxed first stop before the Plaza.
Visits and tastings are free of charge, by appointment.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
