About the Winery

Sei Querce is the estate of Hal Hinkle, who bought two adjoining ranches in Geyserville, in Alexander Valley, in 2010 and 2012 and restored their creeks, roads and vineyards. One of them, the Ellis Ranch, was bought in 1868 by Leander G. Ellis for $1,000 in gold coins and farmed for pears, prunes and grapes for well over a century. The name is Italian for "six oaks," after the six oak species on the land.

The 60 acres of organically farmed Bordeaux varieties rise from the banks of the Russian River to 1,300 feet in the Mayacamas Mountains. Since 2010 the fruit has been sold to top Napa and Sonoma wineries, and Sei Querce says it appears in bottles from Aperture, Silver Oak, Lambert Bridge, Jordan, Fisher, Coppola and Duckhorn. Kate Nowell-Smith has made the Sei Querce wines since 2019, after Jesse Katz, and Tyler Klick of Redwood Empire Vineyard Management oversees the farming. The winery buys carbon offsets for every bottle it fills and ships.

Sei Querce lists only a post office box in Geyserville and sells through its website and wine club, so it does not receive visitors. The day below visits Alexander Valley estates, including two that Sei Querce names among the buyers of its grapes.

Tasting Fees

Sei Querce does not offer tastings.

The day below visits Jordan ($90), Silver Oak Alexander Valley ($65) and Medlock Ames ($45), about $200 per person in tasting fees.

Tasting fees as of October 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
