Russian River Valley · Sonoma County
A family-run winery pouring in Healdsburg's historic Old Roma Station, a winemaking site since the late 1800s, and a suggested six-hour day of tasting around it.

Sapphire Hill began in 1989 as a 38-acre vineyard just outside Sebastopol, named for the blue hue the night sky casts on the hill as the sun sets behind the coastal range. Lisa and Chris Mulcahy bought the winery in 2011 and built a loyal wine club over the next decade; when they retired, two longtime club members, Hallie and Tony, bought it, and the Mulcahys stayed on as advisors and still pour, cook and entertain in the tasting room.
Since 2001 Sapphire Hill has made its wines in Healdsburg, the meeting point of the Alexander Valley, Dry Creek Valley and Russian River Valley, and built a name for Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Zinfandel from grapes grown in those valleys. Winemaker Tami Collins has made the wines since 2010. Grapes are hand harvested and hand sorted twice, and as an independent winery selling mostly to its club, Sapphire Hill releases wines when it is proud of them, not on a distributor's schedule.
The tasting room is in the Old Roma Station, a site with a winemaking history going back to the late 1800s, a few blocks from the plaza. The style, in the owners' words, is unpretentious, personable and fun. The winery also has a second tasting room in Oakland.
$25 per person, waived with the purchase of one or more bottles per tasting.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
