Rock & Clay Wines belongs to Kent Iverson and Carol Collier, who were home winemakers for many years before going commercial. Carol is a writer and a former owner of a wine shop and a wine importing company; Kent earned an enology degree from UC Davis in 1985 and spent his career in the biopharmaceutical industry. The wines are made by Patrick Saboe, director of winemaking at Foundry Wines, whose career includes Robert Sinskey, Hanna, Keller Estate and Petroni Vineyards.
The label makes crisp, aromatic whites and concentrated reds from single vineyards in mostly Sonoma County. Kent named it while digging holes for replacement vines in Namesake Vineyard on Meadowlark Lane in Sonoma, where the soil is Haire clay braided with alluvial sediments. Each bottle carries a bird by scientific illustrator Roger Hall: a Western Meadowlark for the Namesake Vineyard Chardonnay, a Barn Owl for the Coffey Lane Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc, a Great Egret for the Catie's Corner Viognier, a Red Winged Blackbird for the Tzabaco Rancho Malbec and a Common Raven for the Heringer Vineyard Malbec and Tannat.
There is no tasting room, and the winery's website lists no address or visiting hours, so Rock & Clay does not receive visitors. To ask about buying wine, contact Kent by phone or email. The day below stays in the Sonoma Valley around Glen Ellen and Kenwood, at three estates that do host.
Rock & Clay Wines does not offer tastings.
On the day below, tastings are $45 at Benziger, $35 at Imagery and $45 at Kunde, paid directly to each winery.
Tasting fees as of October 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Proprietors Kent Iverson and Carol Collier, with winemaker Patrick Saboe of Foundry Wines.
The owners chose birds by scientific illustrator Roger Hall because they are a constant presence in Northern California vineyards, such as the meadowlarks in Namesake Vineyard each spring.
