About the Winery

Raymond Burr, best remembered as television's Perry Mason and later Ironside, took an interest in permaculture and bought land near Healdsburg. He and his partner, Robert Benevides, grew Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and grapes for port on the Dry Creek Valley estate, along with orchids. After Burr died in 1993, Benevides named the property Raymond Burr Vineyards in his memory, and the property was sold in 2017; the new owners keep the name and tell the story.

The estate grapes have been farmed here since 1986. None of the original wine came with the sale, so these are new, small-lot wines made with a restrained touch from the estate and a handful of longtime local growers, led by Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Zinfandel and Vermentino. The 2024 Vermentino won the Sweepstakes Award at the 2025 Sonoma County Harvest Fair.

This is a relaxed stop, and that is the charm of it. The seated tasting of five wines runs about an hour on a patio overlooking the vineyards or inside the renovated tasting room, the hosts are happy to share Burr's story, and outside food is welcome, so a picnic on the patio is easy. The winery is on West Dry Creek Road just past Yoakim Bridge, a turn that is easy to miss, about 15 minutes from Healdsburg.

Tasting Fees

$25 for the Classic Tasting of five wines, seated on the patio or indoors, about 60 minutes, waived with a purchase of two bottles per guest.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
