About the Winery

Paul Mathew Vineyards is the label of winemaker Mat Gustafson, who came to winemaking by way of the restaurant floor. He was a sommelier in Boulder and the wine buyer at John Ash & Co. in Santa Rosa, where a 1975 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir turned his attention to the region. He later developed vineyards in western Sonoma County and became head winemaker at Sebastopol-Dutton Estate Winery in 2002, after starting there under Merry Edwards.

The winery calls its approach low input winemaking, a slower process that it says gives wines that are lush on the palate with seamless flavors. Pinot Noir is the core, from Russian River Valley, Sonoma Coast and single vineyards such as TNT and Bohemian, with smaller lots of Cabernet Franc, Dolcetto, Grenache, Muscat Blanc, Viognier and Sauvignon Blanc.

The tasting room on Graton Road is informal, with a backyard where guests can sit with a glass, and local cheeses, salumi and crackers for sale. Walk-ins are welcome, which makes it an easy first stop on a day in the Green Valley. We confirm current details when we book.

Tasting Fees

The winery does not publish its tasting fee, so we confirm the current price when we book.
