Swiss-born vintner Jean-Jacques Michel searched Northern California for a winery site and planted the first vines here in 1979, on the contoured slopes of Wine Creek Canyon in the western hills of Dry Creek Valley. In 1991 Jacques Pierre Schlumberger, whose family has made wine in Alsace for more than 400 years, joined the winery, and the Michel-Schlumberger name was born. In December 2025 Wine Spectator wrote about the estate's comeback under new owners, with Natalie Winkler, who made wine at Salvestrin in Napa Valley from 2017 through 2023, as winemaker.
The 100-acre estate is self-contained, with 62 acres of benchland vineyard, long level strips between steeper slopes, about 17 miles from the Pacific. More than 15 varieties grow here, and the focus is Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Zinfandel. In 2016 the winery put in 672 solar panels, the largest solar system in Dry Creek Valley, and in a typical year it makes more power than it uses.
The buildings are what guests remember: white stucco walls, a terracotta roof, a bell tower and a grand courtyard, with Wine Creek running along the front of the estate. The Estate Tasting is the easy way in, and from March to October the Estate Tour takes you through the production facility and out to sweeping views of the valley before a flight of the smallest-production wines. There are also guest suites on the estate for overnight stays.
$40 for the Estate Tasting of small-production estate wines, with an optional charcuterie platter. $60 for the Chocolate and Wine Pairing, four Fleur Sauvage bonbons with estate wines. $75 for the Estate Tour & Tasting, a private guided tour of the production facility and grounds with a special flight, March to October. $25 minimum purchase for the Estate Picnic, bring your own snacks, March to October; no flight included.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

About 15 minutes away. Kelly and Noah Dorrance, who co-founded Banshee Wines, gave Reeve its own estate in 2016 at the end of a single-lane road off Dry Creek Road: a mission-style casa with an open-air veranda, a farm garden and goats that come over to say hello. The tasting is $50 and takes about 90 minutes. By appointment only.
About 5 minutes away. A country store since 1881 at the crossroads of Dry Creek Valley, with a deli for sandwiches, soups and salads, a front porch over the valley and a garden out back. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 15 minutes away. A hillside winery opened in 2012, with tastings on a perch above its certified organic estate vineyard and the valley beyond; a sabering lesson ($75, with the bottle to share) can be added to most tastings. CAST Exploration of five current releases is $40, and the private Prestige Experience of small-production wines and barrel samples with local meats and cheeses is from $125, with a day's notice. Open daily 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., last reservation at 3:30; 21 and over.
Back in Healdsburg by 4:00 p.m., within six hours of pickup.
Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting. Reeve's tasting runs about 90 minutes, so lunch is a little after 1, a few minutes down the road.
About $130 to $250 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.
