About the Winery

Kelly and Noah Dorrance grew up in Missouri, worked in France and married in Italy before coming to California, where Noah co-founded Banshee Wines in 2008 and Kelly soon joined him. Wanting to make their own dream wines, they harvested their first grapes for Reeve in 2015, 500 cases, and in 2016 they took the leap and found Reeve a home: a stone casita, a shaded patio and a small vineyard right where the floor of Dry Creek Valley starts to climb.

Katy Wilson, who has worked at Joseph Phelps, Flowers and Kamen and has her own label, LaRue, is director of winemaking and has been Noah's winemaking partner for more than ten years. Reeve buys from farmers on some of the most sought-after sites in Northern California, mostly in cool corners of Anderson Valley, Mendocino County and the Sonoma Coast: Pinot Noir from Kiser Vineyard, Riesling from Guinness McFadden's old vines in Potter Valley, and Syrah and Grenache from Petrichor in the Fountaingrove District.

The 55-acre estate is about ten minutes from downtown Healdsburg, among oaks, madrones and manzanita. The tasting room is in one of the mission-style casas, with an open-air veranda, local art and foraged flowers inside, and you will likely be greeted by Mookie the dog and the estate's goats. The tasting is slow and low-key, about 90 minutes, and the Reeve Villa up the hill, a four-bedroom farmstay with a pool, rents year-round.

Tasting Fees

$50 per person for a tasting of about 90 minutes, by appointment.

A Suggested Six-Hour Day

Pickup at 10:15 a.m. from a Healdsburg hotel such as The Madrona or Hotel Healdsburg.

10:15 · Pickup at The Madrona or Hotel Healdsburg

The Madrona, a historic mansion turned hotel on Westside Road, and Hotel Healdsburg, on the town plaza, are each about 15 minutes from Reeve, up a single-lane road off Dry Creek Road. The day below fits a six-hour tour, and extra time can be added by the hour.

10:30 · Reeve

A tasting of about 90 minutes on the veranda ($50), by appointment.

12:10 · Trattore Farms

About 10 minutes away. Tim Bucher's hilltop estate of Rhône varieties and olive oil, with a terrace looking all the way around, to Geyser Peak, Mount St. Helena and down Dry Creek Valley. Get Your Boots Dirty, an ATV tour of the vineyards and olive mill that ends with a full tasting, is $125 for 2 to 4 guests; fees for the wine, olive oil and paired tastings are confirmed when we book. Open Thursday to Monday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

1:20 · Lunch at Diavola

About 10 minutes away. Chef Dino Bugica's restaurant in a historic building on Geyserville Avenue, with Neapolitan-style pizza from a wood-burning oven, handmade pasta and house-cured salumi; the menu changes every day. Lunch is served daily from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

3:00 · Passalacqua Winery

About 20 minutes away. Jason Passalacqua, a fourth-generation Dry Creek Valley vintner, opened his winery in 2004, and its seated appointments take place on a deck under the redwood trees. The Single Block Cabernet tasting compares five Cabernets from his parents' vineyard, all from the same vintage and clone, for $75; the regular Wine Appointment has no fee for groups of four or fewer, and fees can be waived with purchases. Appointments at 10:45 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.; no children or pets.

4:00 · Back to your hotel

Back in Healdsburg by 4:15 p.m., within six hours of pickup.

Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting. Passalacqua's last appointment of the day is at 3, so lunch is unhurried, and Trattore Farms opens Thursday to Monday, so this day works on those days.

About $50 to $125 per person in tasting fees at Reeve and Passalacqua, paid directly to each winery; Trattore Farms' tasting fee is to be verified upon reservation.

Every tour is custom. This day is a starting point: your chauffeur will shape it around what matters to you, and we plan multi-day tours for guests who want to see more of wine country.
