Winemaker Chris Mengler and his wife, Rita, founded Mengler Family Wines in 2014, with the idea of bringing family and friends together around small-lot, single-vineyard wines. Its rules are simple: only Sonoma County fruit, only American oak barrels, and family and friends in the work.
Chris does most of the pruning, leafing and trimming himself; family and friends handle the harvest, crushing and destemming, and the wine is finished on the premises before it goes to barrel. The signature is Rita's Block, named for Rita, an 18-variety red field blend from a three-quarter-acre block at Alegria Vineyards in the Russian River Valley, which won a gold medal at the 2018 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition and was named one of Sonoma County's 100 most amazing wines. The range also includes Dolcetto, which earned 91 points from Wine Enthusiast, Sangiovese, Viognier, an Unoaked Chardonnay and a Rosé of Syrah.
The tasting room is on McClelland Drive in Windsor, and it is a small, personal place to taste wines made by the family that grows and blends them. The winery does not publish its hours, so we arrange the visit directly and fit it to the rest of your day.
Tasting fees to be verified upon reservation.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
