Matrix is a small, family-owned winery on Westside Road and one of the Wilson Artisan Wineries, a family of boutique wineries in Northern California; club members of any of the sister wineries taste here free. Its estate fruit comes from three corners of Sonoma County: the foggy Russian River Valley, the highlands of the Sonoma Coast and the mountain edges of Dry Creek Valley.
With that range of estate sites, the winemaker can choose not just the vineyard for each wine but the block, or even specific rows. The farming is hands-on and labor-intensive, with low yields that give concentrated grapes, and the lineup centers on Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and other Burgundian-style wines, with Zinfandel, Petite Sirah and Sauvignon Blanc as well.
The tasting room sits in the Middle Reach of the valley, and its patio and shaded veranda look across hillside vineyards, a good spot to watch the coastal fog lift. The Outdoor Seated Patio Tasting pours five wines from Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Zinfandel, and the staff talk through how the vines are farmed and where the fruit comes from. It is friendly and unpretentious, and a few minutes from Healdsburg.
$25 per person for the Outdoor Seated Patio Tasting of five wines, paid in full when you book.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
