About the Winery

Mazzocco was founded in 1984 by a cataract surgeon, and in 2005 Ken and Diane Wilson took it over. The Wilsons came to Dry Creek Valley as grape growers, planting their first vineyards high in the mountains at the northern end of the appellation, and Mazzocco's Lytton Springs vineyards gave them both great Zinfandel ground and room to make more wine. It is now one of the wineries in the Wilson Artisan Wineries family.

Winemaker Antoine Favero was born in the Champagne region of France, grew up partly in a fishing village in Peru and found winemaking at UC Davis. He also manages the vineyards, and rather than blend sites together he bottles small lots from each: Briar, Maple, Pony Ranch, Smith Orchard, Stone Ranch, Warm Springs Ranch and others, from the loamy valley floor to rocky mountain blocks at up to 2,400 feet. The single-vineyard Zinfandels are the heart of the list, and they collected a long run of Double Gold medals at the 2026 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition.

The winery sits on a rise between Dry Creek and Alexander valleys, surrounded by the Briar Vineyard Zinfandel the Wilsons wanted when they bought it. Guests have their own outdoor table in the garden with tableside service and a five-wine flight that changes through the year, which makes this a relaxed, unhurried first stop. Larger groups move up to the Flight Lounge and Flight Deck on the upper level, with views across Dry Creek Valley.

Tasting Fees

$25 for the Garden Tasting of five wines at a private outdoor table, 75 minutes, for up to 6 guests. $35 for the Group Tasting for 7 to 10 guests. Fees are waived with a purchase of 2 bottles per person, and club members taste free.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

A Suggested Six-Hour Day

Pickup at 10:45 a.m. from a Healdsburg hotel such as Hotel Trio or Hotel Healdsburg.

10:45 · Pickup at Hotel Trio or Hotel Healdsburg

Hotel Trio, on Dry Creek Road on the north side of town, is about 10 minutes from Mazzocco, and Hotel Healdsburg, on the town plaza, about 15, so we collect everyone at 10:45 and have you at your garden table for the first 11 o'clock seating. This day runs a little past six hours because of the later start, and the extra time is added by the hour when you book.

11:00 · Mazzocco

The Garden Tasting of five wines at your own outdoor table, 75 minutes ($25).

12:30 · Lunch at Bravas Bar de Tapas

About 15 minutes away. James Beard finalists Mark and Terri Stark's tapas bar on Center Street, steps from the Healdsburg plaza, with paella, Spanish wines and tables indoors or outside; it leaves you a short hop to the afternoon's first tasting. Open daily from 11:30 a.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

2:00 · Ramey Wine Cellars

About 5 minutes away. David Ramey, who worked at Château Pétrus, Chalk Hill, Matanzas Creek, Dominus and Rudd, founded Ramey Wine Cellars in 1996, and his Chardonnays earned him the nickname Professor Chardonnay; his children Claire and Alan have run it since 2021. The seated tasting of six wines, in a private upstairs parlor overlooking the cellar a few blocks from the plaza, is $50 and about 90 minutes. By appointment, daily at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

3:50 · Thomas George Estates

About 20 minutes away. Tom Baker's family estate on the old Davis Bynum winery site on Westside Road, with wine caves dug into the hillside in 2010, rare on Westside Road. The Estate Tasting of five wines with estate-made arancini is $40, and the seated Single Vineyard Reserve Tasting of six wines with estate-made tacos, in the garden or the cave, is $75. Open Thursday to Monday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; book ahead.

4:50 · Back to your hotel

Back in Healdsburg by 5:15 p.m.

Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting. Mazzocco's first seating is at 11, so this day starts with a 10:45 pickup and ends around 5:15. Ramey pours only at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., so lunch is timed around the 2 o'clock seating, and Thomas George opens Thursday to Monday, so this day works on those days.

About $115 to $150 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.

Every tour is custom. This day is a starting point: your chauffeur will shape it around what matters to you, and we plan multi-day tours for guests who want to see more of wine country.
