Russian River Valley · Sonoma County
A tasting room on the corner of the Healdsburg plaza that feels like a European wine bar, with records on the turntable and wines from small family vineyards across California, and a suggested six-hour day of tasting around it.

LIOCO was conceived in the summer of 2005 in the alley behind Spago Beverly Hills, where wine director Kevin O'Connor and wine salesman Matt Licklider, critical of the heavy-handed wines of the day, wondered whether California soils could give more nuanced wines. Today the winery is owned and run by Matt and his wife, Sara Licklider, with winemaker Drew Huffine and viticulturists Prudy Foxx and Scott Knippelmeir.
LIOCO has no estate vineyard. It buys from small family ranches spread across five counties and four hundred miles, farmed sustainably, organically or biodynamically, from sites such as David Hirsch's vineyard on the far Sonoma Coast and Hanzell in the Mayacamas. In the cellar the team works with native yeasts, uses no new oak for the whites and bottles most wines without fining or filtration, and the range runs from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir to what it calls outlier reds such as Carignan and Valdiguié.
The tasting room on the southeast corner of the historic plaza, designed by Paige Pierce Design, has been featured in Travel & Leisure and Food & Wine. It feels more like a European wine bar than a tasting room: records from a 450-album collection on a vintage Marantz turntable, shaded sidewalk tables and a parklet beside the plaza. The Elevated Tasting Experience pours library, large-format and off-menu wines in a private lounge, with optional bites made by Sara Licklider.
Three tasting experiences from $40 to $60. The Elevated Tasting Experience of library, large-format and off-menu wines is $60, or $75 with food pairing.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
