Mac McQuown and his wife, Leslie, founded Stone Edge Farm Estate Vineyards and Winery in 2004. Mac helped develop the first index fund at Wells Fargo and was an early backer of California fine wine through Chalone and Carmenet. Since his death the family winery has been led by Leslie, their son Morgan and Morgan's wife, Alexa.
The wines are estate grown from about 23 acres: the five-acre Stone Edge vineyard on the family's farm near the Sonoma square, the Silver Cloud estate high on Moon Mountain in the Mayacamas, and Mt. Pisgah Vineyard for certain Cabernet Sauvignon releases. The farm is organic and regenerative, runs on its own MicroGrid, and grows produce for Enclos, the family's Michelin-starred restaurant off the plaza. Alejandro Zimman has been winemaker since the 2018 vintage, after Jeff Baker made the wines from 2004 through 2017.
Guests taste at La Maison, the family's tasting lounge on Eighth Street East, a few minutes south of town in the Carneros. The Signature Tasting is an hour-long introduction to the estate wines, which run from Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon to Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and the Silver Cloud and Surround blends; collectors can go deeper with the 90-minute Library Tasting of older vintages. Private visits to Silver Cloud on Moon Mountain, among its vineyards, olive groves and orchards, are arranged by request.
$95 for La Maison Signature Tasting, 60 minutes, for 2 to 4 guests. $150 for the Library Tasting, a guided 90-minute tasting of library wines for 2 to 10 guests. Silver Cloud visits are quoted on request.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
