Jim Young and his wife, Kathleen Kelley Young, started Kelley & Young in 2006. Jim comes from the family behind Robert Young Vineyards, farmed by the Youngs in Alexander Valley since 1858, and he is its vineyard manager and CEO. Kathleen died in January 2021, and her daughters, Madeline and Courtney, now help Jim carry on the winery, which supports the American Cancer Society through the Kathleen Rose Fund in her memory.
Most of the grapes come from the family's certified-sustainable Robert Young Vineyards, 287 acres of vines on a 450-acre property against the Mayacamas range, and Jim picks the blocks for Kelley & Young himself. The specialty is rosé made from all five red Bordeaux varieties, in a lighter style called Kathleen Rose and a darker one called Nuits de Young, alongside Sauvignon Blanc, Zinfandel and Malbec fermented with native yeast and aged 20 months in French oak, late-harvest dessert wines when the vintage allows, and a small Russian River Valley Pinot Noir. In 2021 the winery made about 1,500 cases, its largest vintage to that point.
Kelley & Young poured in a tasting room in downtown Cloverdale, a few miles north of the vineyards, but closed it in May 2026, telling customers to stay tuned for details on local availability. The wines are still sold through the winery's online shop and wine club, and the family answers questions by phone, text or email. For a day in the same northern corner of Alexander Valley, we take guests to small family estates nearby that do open their doors.
Kelley & Young does not offer tastings.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Pickup at 9:20 a.m. from a hotel such as Hotel Trio in Healdsburg or Geyserville Inn.
Hotel Trio, on Dry Creek Road on the north side of Healdsburg, is about 40 minutes from William Gregory, up Highway 101 and River Road, and Geyserville Inn, at the north end of Geyserville, about 30. Since Kelley & Young does not host visitors, this day takes you to three family estates nearby that do. The day below fits a six-hour tour, and extra time can be added by the hour.
The first stop. A private tasting with vintner Bill Pesonen, a retired Air Force and American Airlines pilot who farms his hillside Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah near Asti himself; we plan about 90 minutes and confirm the fee when we book.
About 30 minutes away. Chef Dino Bugica's restaurant in a historic building on Geyserville Avenue, with Neapolitan-style pizza from a wood-burning oven, handmade pasta and house-cured salumi. Lunch is served daily from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 10 minutes away. A family winery one mile north of Geyserville, where the Pastoris have grown grapes since the early 1900s; the fourth generation, Paolo Pastori Ng, makes Old Vine Zinfandel and a two-barrel Centurian Zinfandel from a block planted in 1914. Tastings by reservation at the old-school family winery; the fee is confirmed when we book.
About 10 minutes away. Joe Ramazzotti came to Dry Creek Valley from Italy's Le Marche region in 1958 and founded this winery with his wife, Norma, in 2002. The casual Geyserville tasting room pours Sangiovese, Barbera, Vermentino and the rarely seen Lacrima, often with the winemakers behind the counter. The fee is confirmed when we book. Open Thursday to Monday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Back in Healdsburg by 3:40 p.m.
Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting. Ramazzotti opens Thursday to Monday, so this day works on those days. William Gregory and Pastori are both by reservation, and we confirm times with each family when we book.
Tasting fees at William Gregory, Pastori and Ramazzotti are to be verified upon reservation; none of the three publishes a fee. Each is paid directly to the winery.
