About the Winery

The Pastori family's story in Alexander Valley goes back to the early 1900s, when Italian immigrant ancestors with little money bought land north of Geyserville, often getting bud wood from their neighbors and grafting it onto existing vines. Like much of Sonoma County then, the ranch grew apples, pears and prunes as well as grapes, and over time it became a dedicated vineyard.

Frank Pastori, the second generation, worked the vineyards from boyhood and kept farming them well into his 90s; a local historian and a Geyserville pioneer, he died in 2020 at the age of 100. His grandson, Paolo Pastori Ng, the fourth generation, now runs the winery. The family belongs to the Historic Vineyard Society, and its Old Vine Zinfandel comes from 69-year-old vines, while the Centurian Old Vine Zinfandel, just two barrels, comes from the oldest block, planted in 1914. Production is small, and the family's approach is to let the grapes and soil lead rather than the barrel.

The winery sits on Geyserville Avenue, one mile north of Geyserville, and keeps its old-school Sonoma County character. Visits are by reservation, arranged with the family, and the range runs from Zinfandel to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and white and dessert blends. It is a small, personal stop, best for guests who like meeting the people who farm the vines and hearing a century of Alexander Valley history from the family that lived it.
