Dave Homewood began as a home winemaker in 1983, when he and two friends made wine from a ton of Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. In 1986 they bought their first ton of Chardonnay from the newly formed Carneros appellation, and the style Homewood became known for was born. The winery was bonded in 1988 with about 500 cases, and it now celebrates more than 35 harvests.
Zinfandel joined the Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon in 1992, when production grew to about 2,000 cases. Grapes come from chosen growers, several of them small family vineyards whose whole crop goes to Homewood, so most wines are vineyard designates. Dave calls his style under-manipulated: all of the reds are unfined and unfiltered.
This is a relaxed, old-school Carneros stop. The tasting of two whites and three reds is poured in the tasting room or, on a nice day, at the outdoor tables, with staff who like to teach and entertain. It is the place to try Rhône whites, old-vine Zinfandel, Petite Sirah and a late-harvest Merlot.
$20 per person for a tasting of two white and three red wines, waived with the purchase of a bottle per person.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
