Greg and Lindsay Hamilton met in Glasgow, where Greg worked for a wine merchant and Lindsay was visiting from California. They started making wine in a tiny Berkeley garage in 2011 with borrowed equipment, moved to Sonoma Valley in 2016, and a year later lost their home in the 2017 Sonoma fires. They chose to keep building, and Hamilton Family Wines launched in 2019.
Grenache is at the heart of it, joined by small lots of Syrah, Mourvèdre, a GSM blend, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir from their own vines in Kenwood and from growers in the Russian River Valley, the Moon Mountain District and Sonoma Valley. Greg leads the wine direction and vineyard relationships with consulting winemaker Jess Wade, who favors restraint and site expression, and Lindsay runs the hospitality.
The place is built for lingering: tastings are hosted in the olive grove, in cabanas, on the patio or in a cozy tasting room. The Rhône Table is the one to book, with the individually bottled Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah tasted side by side and then together in the GSM, with a cheese and charcuterie board, and Greg hosts on select dates. Guests can also ride through Kenwood on a guided electric trike tour that starts and ends at the winery.
$35 for the Signature Tasting of five current releases, about 60 minutes, waived with a three-bottle purchase. $75 for the Rhône Table, a seated Rhône flight with a cheese and charcuterie board, about 75 minutes, with 48 hours' notice.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Children and picnics are welcome, pets can join at outdoor seating, and the tasting room is ADA accessible. Parties of up to 10 book online; 11 or more contact the winery. Golden Hour, Thursday to Sunday from 3:30 to 5 p.m., offers select glasses from $10.
Pickup at 10:45 a.m. from a Kenwood or Glen Ellen hotel such as Kenwood Inn & Spa or Gaige House.
Kenwood Inn & Spa, on the Sonoma Highway in Kenwood, is about 5 minutes from Hamilton Family Wines, and Gaige House, a Japanese-inspired inn along Calabazas Creek in Glen Ellen, about 10. The day below fits a six-hour tour, and extra time can be added by the hour.
The Rhône Table in the olive grove: small-lot Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah, then the GSM, with a cheese and charcuterie board ($75). About 75 minutes.
About 5 minutes away. A steakhouse, seafood grill and oyster bar among the vineyards on the Sonoma Highway in Kenwood, with craft cocktails and tables overlooking a koi pond. Lunch is served Thursday to Tuesday. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 10 minutes away. The Ledson family's highest vineyard, at up to 2,000 feet on Cavedale Road in the Moon Mountain District, is private, so its Cabernet Sauvignon is poured inside the Ledson Castle, the French Normandy-style landmark on the Sonoma Highway. The private, seated Mountain Terraces tasting of five estate wines with a cheese board is $125 plus tax, about 2 hours. By reservation, Thursday to Saturday; a hospitality coordinator confirms each booking, and cancellations need 72 hours' notice.
About 10 minutes away. A small Syrah specialist that Wine & Spirits named a Winery to Watch, pouring in a cottage on Adobe Canyon Road where Scottish-born winemaker Steve Law hosts the tasting himself. His flight of limited-production, cool-climate Syrah, Pinot Noir, Viognier and Sauvignon Blanc is the Signature Tasting Experience ($50); a seat across from the winemaker is what makes it special. By appointment only, requested through the winery's form.
Back in Kenwood by 5:10 p.m., within six hours of pickup.
Hamilton opens at 11 a.m. and Mountain Terraces pours Thursday to Saturday, so this day starts later, works Thursday to Saturday and ends around 5. Lunch comes early, right after the Rhône Table, so the long castle tasting fits before Mountain Terraces closes.
About $250 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.
