About the Winery

Jim Demuth, from a small town in Ohio, found an old-vine Zinfandel on a 2012 trip to Sonoma County that changed how he thought about wine. Greg Adams, a fourth-generation Californian, has developed and managed vineyards in Sonoma County since 1977, mostly in the cool west county. The two met that year on a Dry Creek Valley vineyard project, Jim on a tractor digging a soil pit and Greg inspecting the soil, and in 2013 they founded Gregory James Wines.

The wines come from top vineyards rather than an estate: Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from cool sites such as Sangiacomo, two old-vine Zinfandels from Dry Creek Valley growers, Petite Sirah, and since 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon from Beckstoffer's Georges III, one of Napa Valley's most sought-after vineyards. Chris Russi, who has made wine and tended vineyards in Sonoma County for 25 years, has been winemaker since 2020, with a light hand in the cellar.

The Signature Tasting is an unhurried, hosted 90 minutes for a small party: five wines, ending with the Georges III Cabernet, while your host tells the story of the family growers behind them. Order the Journeyman Meat Company salumi board ahead and it turns into a light lunch.

Tasting Fees

$45 per person for the hosted Signature Tasting of five wines, 90 minutes, for up to 6 guests.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
