About the Winery

Fred and Juelle Fisher founded Fisher Vineyards in 1973, when they bought an unplanted homestead ranch on the western slopes of the Mayacamas Mountains, with no running water, electricity or road through the property. They married in what became the Wedding Vineyard in 1975, added a second estate in Calistoga the same year and released their first wine, a Cabernet Sauvignon from both estates, from the 1979 harvest. Their children, Whitney, Robert and Cameron, lead the winery today.

The Mountain Estate has 30 acres of vineyard, with Cabernet Sauvignon on steep, west-facing terraces that climb to 1,400 feet, Chardonnay at 1,300 feet and Syrah from a small hand-farmed ravine of volcanic tuff. Stone terraces were built in 1995, David Abreu guided replanting from 2001, and farming moved to organic in 2004. Whitney Fisher made the wine for many years and now oversees the vineyards and production, and Adam Goodrich has been with the winery since 2010.

At the center of the estate is the barn-style winery of 1978, designed by architect William Turnbull, a family friend, and built from timber grown and milled on the property. Barrel caves were dug into the hillside below it in 1998 and are reached by a steep underground stairway. Visits are tastings by appointment at the winery.
