Landmark was founded in 1974 by a group led by Damaris Deere Ford, great-great-granddaughter of John Deere, the inventor of the steel plow, and named for a family home in Bermuda. It began in Windsor and moved to Kenwood in 1989. Her son Mike Colhoun and his wife, Mary, sold the winery in 2011 to FIJI Water, part of Stewart Resnick's Roll Global, now The Wonderful Company.
In 1991 Landmark made its first Overlook Chardonnay, named for the Deere family home above the Mississippi River in Moline, Illinois, and in 1993 it hired Helen Turley, who set its style: whole-cluster pressing, native yeast fermentation and aging in French oak. Overlook had been on Wine Spectator's Top 100 list seven times by 2016, the year Landmark bought the Hop Kiln Estate in the Russian River Valley. Greg Stach is the winemaker, and the grapes come from the estate and from leading vineyards around California.
The Kenwood Estate sits at the foot of the Mayacamas Mountains on the corner of Highway 12 and Adobe Canyon Road. Tastings are seated and outdoors, with small-production Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, views over the vineyards and a bocce court for groups.
$50 for the Exclusive Wine Tasting of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, about 90 minutes. $70 for the Reserve Library Tasting of two library Chardonnays and two library Pinot Noirs, about 90 minutes. $60 per adult for the Bocce Ball & Wine Experience with cheese and charcuterie, up to two hours, for groups of 4 to 15. Tastings are complimentary for Wine Society members and up to three guests.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
